It sickens me that the power that I have granted Congress and the President have been abused to this extent. Whether I believe Terri Schiavo should continue on life support is immaterial. The government has robbed the judiciary of its power, and they’re the only ones who can really make an educated decision regarding this issue.

By endorsing this bill, which is directed specifically at the Schiavo case no matter what guise they try to hide it in, they’ve tacitly endorsed the parent’s request to continue life support for Schiavo without the requirement of reviewing the medical evidence or the wishes of her or her family. They’ve essentially taken the easy road to re-election by choosing sides with the uninformed populace and assuming that the case had not already been determined from the perspective of “presumption in favor of life”. They’ve assumed power for themselves that they were not granted, and subverted the process of checks and balances that we all learned in elementary school was so important. Our government has broken fundamentally today.

As more of my reserved rights are being taken away forcefully, I wonder at what point I would be justified in taking up arms to get them back.
