Saturday was a busy day for us -- Two Christmas parties and a ride on the Christmas train.

We went to West Chester to meet Mom and Nana to try out this Santa Express.  It's a special train ride that is offered by the West Chester Rail Road during the holiday season.  We didn't really know what exactly to expect, but we knew that the train would ride to a station in Glen Mills, then just come back on the same track.  I don't really know where Glen Mills is, so it's all new to me.

Anyway, the train they had was about what you would expect for an older rail line.  They're classic-looking cars with an older, but not steam, engine.  This type of train brings images of the Orient Express - elegant cars with tea served by waiters in tuxedos.  Well, there wasn't anything fancy on the inside of the cars, just some seats, but the ride itself turned out to be pretty fun.

Over the in-train PA system, someone announced that Santa Claus was going to be on the train, as well as a group of banjo players.  I thought for a moment that I had entered a very surreal daydream.  But it all turned out well.  Santa came through with candycanes for the kids and the banjo players were the highlight of the trip for me, getting the passengers to sing Christmas songs.  It was a good time.  Abby seemed to enjoy the whole trip.

Glen Mills was basically the train station and a gift shop that only I went in.  Nothing but knick-knacks and antiques in there, so nothing for me.  But that was ok.

I'm looking forward to checking out the Rail Road's schedule for some of their other themed trips, especially the murder mysteries.
