I’ve been experiencing weird server load today. I want to blame it on the spammers, the “shemale” site pimpers, since I’ve been getting an unusual revival of spam through the comment form lately. They don’t know when to give up.

I guess they figure if they pound the site hard enough, eventually, I’ll turn off the comment filering to save processor time and that’ll let them through. Not likely.

No, instead, I turned off real-time statistics monitoring (I told you guys that BAStats was killing me. I’ve had it on for two days and it’s already bringing MySQL to its knees.) and enabled WP-Cache, a caching plugin.

WP-Cache didn’t work too well on the Windows server, if I recall correctly. I don’t remember exactly what it did that didn’t work, just that I was frustrated with it, and deleted it before I gave it a good shakeout. Well, here we go again on a server that supports mutexes.

So if you see weird stuff, comment on it or email me (email at bottom of page). Hopefully I won’t have to turn the cache off, and I’ll have my crafty new comment spam catching widget in OSA before too long. This one is so deceptively simple that I’m surprised I didn’t think of it before.

Also, I turned Bloglet back on. I really wish that Bloglet would send you email when your feed becomes broken. It’s really annoying when it stops sending and you don’t notice for a week. I’m glad that I’m not trying to use it to make money, because I’d be out a week of newletter revenue.
